How to File a Debit Card Dispute
Seeing unexpected charges on your Educational Community Alliance Credit Union Debit Card can be stressful, but you don’t have to face them alone. If you notice a transaction that just doesn’t seem right, acting quickly can help protect your account from further unauthorized activity and ensure a smooth resolution.
Where to start:
- Do a careful account review – take some time to review your transaction history and ensure it wasn’t a purchase you may have forgotten about, a recurring subscription, or one an account joint owner may have previously approved.
- Contact the merchant (if applicable) – if you identify the transaction to be unauthorized, the first step is to contact the merchant. Many disputes can be resolved much faster working directly without the need to file a dispute through the credit union.
If you are unable to resolve the issue directly with the merchant, filing a debit card dispute would be your next step.
- Report the dispute to the credit union – Report the dispute to Fiserv, who handles the Credit Union’s disputes. Please call them at 833-462-0798.
- Have the details and your card ready – detailed information regarding the transaction will be required to start the process. This includes:
- Transaction date
- Transaction amount
- Merchant name
- Supporting documentation such as receipt reflecting conflicting information, or correspondence with the merchant (if applicable).
- Continue to monitor your account – while your dispute is being processed, it is recommended to keep an eye on your account for additional activity.
- Resolution – while the investigation is ongoing, a provisional credit may be issued at the discretion of the credit union. If the dispute is resolved in your favor, the temporary credit will become permanent. Our team will notify you as soon as possible if the investigation determines that an error did not occur.
Important to note:
- Disputes should be filed as soon as possible—there are time limits on when claims can be submitted.
- Fraudulent transactions (charges you didn’t authorize) should be reported immediately to prevent further unauthorized activity.
- If your debit card is lost or stolen, report it right away:
- First, go the app or online banking and temporarily block your card. You can also report the card lost/stolen from the card services section on the app/online banking.
- During business hours call 419.381.2323
- After Hours call 833-462-0798 to speak to a representative that can assist.
