Summer Is for Making Memories… and Planning for Peace of Mind

Summer is filled with family cookouts, vacations, reunions, and time spent with the people who matter most. As you’re catching up with loved ones, it’s also a great time to have an important conversation about protecting one another for the future.

Many people don’t think about who could help manage their finances until a medical emergency or unexpected illness occurs. Unfortunately, by that point, it can be much more difficult or even impossible to put the proper protections in place.

That’s why it’s important to plan ahead.

One simple step you can take is adding a trusted contact to your financial accounts. A trusted contact is someone your credit union can reach if we notice unusual activity or have concerns about your well-being and are unable to reach you. While a trusted contact cannot access your accounts or make transactions, they provide an additional layer of protection when it matters most.

A trusted contact works alongside other important planning tools, such as naming beneficiaries, establishing a Power of Attorney, or adding a joint owner when appropriate. These decisions are best made while you are healthy and able to communicate your wishes.

Having these conversations may not always be easy, but they are one of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones. Planning ahead can reduce stress, prevent delays, and provide peace of mind during difficult times.

If you’d like to learn more about trusted contacts or other ways to help protect your accounts, our team is here to help. We’ll gladly answer your questions and help you understand your options so you can make the decision that’s right for you.

Enjoy your summer, make wonderful memories, and take a few moments to plan for tomorrow. Your future self and your loved ones will thank you.
