Don’t Be Fooled by AI Voice Scams

Scammers are always looking for new ways to trick people, and one of the fastest-growing threats today is AI voice impersonation. Using advanced technology, fraudsters can clone the voice of a loved one, a coworker, or even someone claiming to represent your financial institution.

The scam usually creates a sense of urgency: a “relative” says they need money right away, or a “credit union employee” warns that your account will be frozen unless you act. Because the voice sounds real, it’s easy to panic.

How to protect yourself:

  • Pause before reacting. Urgent calls are designed to pressure you. Take a moment to think.
  • Verify the source. Hang up and call the person or organization back using a number you know is legitimate.
  • Keep personal info private. EducaCU will never ask for your PIN, password, or full account number by phone, text, or email.

If something feels suspicious, trust your instincts. It’s always safer to double-check than to respond on the spot. By staying cautious, you can stop scammers in their tracks.
